Puja committees curtail budget for flood victims

JORHAT, Sept 27: Around 82 puja committees have curtailed their expenses to lend a helping hand for the flood-affected people whose houses and land have been washed away.
Jorhat Town Station committee has curtailed their puja expenses and has erected a colourful electronic entrance gate instead of 20 similar electronic lighting gates. After curtailing expenses, the committee maged to save more than Rs 4 lakh and this will be handed over to flood victims soon after Durga Puja and Lakshmi Puja in the first week of October. “Our committee is planning to hand over the fund to the local MLA-cum-Speaker of the Legislative Assembly or to the Chief Minister after the festival is over,” said Gautam Hazra, secretary of the organizing committee of Jorhat Town Station Puja Committee. Hazra said every evening there would be special messages for the people to make them aware about the flood-affected people, how they are still suffering and facing problems since the month of April.
