Pul asks BRO to improve roads quality

Itagar, May 24: Emphasizing on border connectivity, Aruchal Pradesh Chief Minister Kalikho Pul has asked the Border Road Organization (BRO) to improve the quality of works and to expedite the works under Project Udayak in eastern sectors of the state. Pul request came when Project Udayak Chief Engineer Umesh Chandra Mehta, called on him in his office here today, an official communiqué informed. The chief minister while enquiring about the progress of works in various sectors under Project Udayak in Eastern Sector of the state asked the BRO to maintain quality of works citing that there was repeated complaint of poor quality of work from the public.

He asked him to take corrective measures in order to improve the quality of works while suggesting him to conduct surprise vigilance in order to check selling of construction materials clandestinely in open market and to take stringent action against the defaulter.

Pul, however, assured the BRO official that if qualities are well maintained, the roads would remain with BRO. He further requested to place sufficient machineries and equipments in important sectors to expedite the progress of works and to make BRO’s presence in the state.

The chief minister also asked the BRO official to sufficiently widen the hilly road in turning points citing that rrow turning points are one of the causes of accidents in hilly areas. Referring to the Kalaktang accident in West Kameng district on Sunday, Pul said them to immediately clean the debris of landslide on the road once the weather is clear in hilly roads and to place machineries in various locations, for the purpose.

Reiterating the importance of border connectivity, the chief minister asked the chief engineer to expedite the works to border areas like Hawaii to Dimwe, Hayuliang to Chaglagam, mti to Kibithu, Brahmakhund to Arowa and Roing to Anini citing that the roads were strategically important.

The chief minister also enquired about the progress of works of bridges over Dhipu River along Roing-Tezu road and Deopani River at Roing which are significant for inter districts  connectivity between Lohit, Lower Dibang Valley and Dibang Valley districts. Pul further suggested to ask for enhancement of maintence fund for Aruchal Pradesh as most of the roads pass through the hilly terrains and steep slopes frequented with landslides.

Chief engineer Mehta said that the BRO was re-orienting all the works with necessary corrective measures. He assured the chief minister that the standard quality would be maintained by them and strict check on selling of construction materials to the public would be strictly checked and controlled.

He said that the surprise vigilant check has been initiated to check such illegal selling of construction materials and said to take stern action against the officers and officials of BRO found indulging in such activities.

The BRO officer also informed that the bridge over Diphu River would be completed by December 2016 and Roing to Koronu road via Paya will be completed by March 2017.

He said that the long due bridge over Deopani river at Roing has been handed over to a new agency, Poddar Construction Agency, Delhi while informing that the construction of the bridge is going at rapid pace now and  would be completed by December next year, the communiqué added.
