Pulibor Police arrests two in firing incident, family suspects IC under scanner

From a Correspondent

JORHAT, October 1: The Pulibor Police under the present IC Hrishikesh Hazarika has of late been accused of doing policing on its own rather than following a prescribed schedule and within the framework of police manual, which has paved way for public resentment. The police have been accused of favouring hardcore crimils and petty anti-socials and in the worst case scerio declaring most crimils booked under non-bailable sections as absconders in the fil chargesheet. This has come to the light following an explosive disclosure by a victim identified as Mridu Paban Bora of Panichokuwa village under Pulibor Outpost who survived a brutal attack by a gang of crimils but despite repeated calls failed to bring the police to his rescue.

Talking to The Sentinel exclusively for the first time, Mridu Paban Bora said, “It was  June 5 at around 5:25 pm when I was returning from Indo-Assam Tea Factory in my car when I was intercepted by a three-member gang headed by Malowlora Das alias Mridul Das, Ratul Das and Pulin Das. All three with known crimil background attacked me with sharp weapons from the front while hitting my left head with a machete and another striked on my right hand and even tried to tear off the flesh. I started bleeding profusely and started running seeking shelter in different houses but all kept their doors closed as the goons threatened the villagers with dire consequences. But filly a person provided me shelter and gave me a piece of cloth to cover my wounds. From there I called Pulibor Outpost seeking police and medical help but the IC in return asked me to come down to the police station and reiterated that the goons won’t kill me and that I didn’t need to panic.”

“Soon my father Gopal Chandra Das and my brothers Purushottom Bora and Aditya Pran Bora accompanied with other villagers arrived on the spot and rescued me and took me to the hospital. With several stitches on my forehead and right hand, I lodged an FIR against the trio at Pulibor Outpost and even informed the Superintendent of Police Amanjeet Kaur on June 10 about the incident.

The SP assured my father of action within 24 hours but it is now almost three months and the police have not taken any action to b the culprits. Instead, the IC asked me to inform him about the whereabouts of the crimils and even asked me to furnish their photos and additiolly asked me to keep the IC’s phone number in speed dial number 1 and immediately inform whenever I see them, or maybe apprehend them and bring them to the police station. The IC also asked me to keep a weapon in my car for my protection,” said Bora.

He added, “My two brothers after seeing no police action despite informing the police about seeing the main crimil Malowlora Das with one Gunin Borchetia several times, decided to go and ask Gunin as to why he was siding with crimils like Malowlora Das who attempted to kill me. There was a heated altercation and using this as bait, the wife of Gunin Borchetia informed the police about crimil trespass and later when the police arrived, she handed over two bullets of a .32 revolver, one live and one fired which she alleged was fired by a third person to infuse a sense of fear and that there was a third person involved in the firing.”

Mridu Paban Bora further alleged, “The same police officer Hrishikesh Hazarika who earlier failed to b the crimils who attempted to murder him came early next morning to our house and picked my two brothers and later called the wife of Gunin Borchetia and instructed her to lodge an FIR in the Police station. Accordingly, a Pulibor P.S Case no 233/15 U/S 447/323/506/34 IPC & RW 25 (1((a)/27 Arms Act was registered against my brothers and they were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate and remanded for three days. However, no one residing in close proximity of Gunin Borchetia’s house heard any gunshots. I persolly doubt the role of the police, especially Hrishikesh Hazarika, in the whole episode because after I lodged an FIR against the trio, many people have heard the crimils openly declaring in public about murdering me and planning to put me behind bars with the help of  police and even implicating my brothers in false case.”
