Pulse polio immunization drive for 2018 launched

Joysagar, Jan 29: The pulse polio special immunization drive for the year 2018 was formally started in Sivasagar district on Sunday, along with the rest of the country. Sivasagar Development Commissioner Abhijit Baruah and District Joint Director of Health Services Dr Ripun Borpujari lit the earthen lamp and administered pulse polio drops in the Jaydayal Khemka Memorial Government Women and Child Health Care Centre of Sivasagar town.
 “This year the District Health Department has listed about 11,95,259 children under the age of 0-5 years for polio immunization and to achieve the goal, altogether 3,368 paramedical staff have been recruited who will go door-to-door to immunize babies,” said the Joint Director Dr Barpujari. He also said that apart from this a total of 856 immunization booths had been set up in different villages of the district and 20 special transit camps had also been set up for this. All the government hospitals and PHCs as well as private nursing homes were also directed to offer polio immunization services to every child under the age of 0-5 years. Many social organizations and NGOs, including the Lion’s Club and the Rotary Club of Sivasagar, have also come forward to take part in this polio immunization drive.
