Purabi Dairy fortifies toned milk

GUWAHATI, May 31: To eradicate micronutrient malnutrition and to support the tion-wide fortification initiative of FSSAI and Tata Trusts, the West Assam Milk Producers' Cooperative Union Limited  (WAMUL), commonly known as "Purabi" has decided to fortify its Smart Milk (toned milk) with vitamins A and D. Now, the fortified milk of Purabi will be available in a new blue  pack with the "+F" logo of FSSAI.

Assam Minister for Veteriry and Animal Husbandry Atul Bora in presence of the Press Adviser to the Chief Minister of Assam Hrishikesh Goswami; Senior Advisor, Tata Trust Vivek Arora; Director, Nutrition Programme, Tata Trust Dr. Rajan Shankar and representatives from WAMUL formally launched the new packets of the fortified Purabi Milk in a meeting held in Guwahati on Wednesday.

Addressing the meeting, Bora stressed on the need of fortification of milk to address various health related issues and assured their full support for success of its implementation.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rajan Shankar, Director, Nutrition Programme, Tata Trust said, "Fortification of vitamins in milk or in other food products is nothing new for the Western World. It is very much essential for overall growth of a human body." The new fortified Smart Milk shall be available from all stores from June 1- coinciding with the World Milk Day. This was stated in a press release.
