Purkayastha condemns MP Tasa's comments

From our Correspondent

Silchar, Oct 22:  BJP MP from Jorhat Kamakhya Prasad Tasa’s derogatory and belittling remarks regarding Pt Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi at a public meeting in Sori on Saturday, have been sharply criticized and condemned. Sharp reactions are coming from around the State of Assam. He compared both Nehru and Gandhi with garbage. Kamakhya Prasad Tasa said, “The ideologies of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya are not getting accepted by the masses because Congress is consistently brainwashing the minds of the common people with garbages like Nehru and Gandhi.”

APCC members have also lodged an FIR for arresting Kamakhya Prasad Tasa for insulting Nehru and Gandhi. Talking to The Sentinel, MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha said, “Such remarks from a MP or anybody else, regarding Nehru and Gandhi, are not at all acceptable. We take pride in saying that we have MPs from Assam. Is it appropriate for an MP to pass such comments? Kamakhya Prasad Tasa should thoroughly go through the pages of Indian history. I think he even does not know about India’s freedom struggle. I am also not sure that he would even know the date of our Independence Day.”

“Persons, especially leaders, who pass such comments, can only indulge in dirty politics. They just do politics for the sake of politics. It pains us to know that we have such leaders. They should know the history of our country. Such persons are human beings, no doubt, but not citizens of India. We had no industries; we had nothing around 60 years ago. It was because of Congress and its able and efficient leaders that India has reached this position. None can deny the contributions of Nehru and Gandhi,” Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha added to say.

Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha said, “This is extremely shameful to know that such comments are being passed. I request him to read Indian history.” Regarding mami Barak, he said, “I appreciate it. But I think distribution of the allotted 5 crore is very uneven and unsatisfactory for me. mami Barak is just a tool to play with the sentiments and emotions of the people of Barak Valley. It is high that the state should think about economic, socio and cultural development of Barak Valley. Proper emphasis should be given to empowerment of youth. Efforts should be made to take this valley to world stage.”

“The concept is good but more emphasis should be given to overall development of this valley. mami Barak is just a showpiece. At least tiol Highways should be repaired and developed. Roadways are not to the mark in this part of the valley. If needed I will give Rs. 5 lakh to the people who are suffering owing to the closure of Paanchgram Paper Mill,” Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha added.

Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha also spoke about the recent sex scandal at Karimganj district which was uncovered by jourlist Mril Sarkar. Mril Sarkar was beaten black and blue by those involved in the scandal. “It is pathetic that jourlists are so unsafe and unsecure in this country. However, pen is always mightier than the sword. Everybody has the right to write and publish the truth. The truth cannot be suppressed at any cost. It is the fourth pillar of democracy. No one has the right to beat a jourlist. It is really shameful and highly condemble,” he added to say.
