Guwahati, Feb 9: Governor Banwarilal Purohit iugurated a Conference on “Green Energy-Problems, Prospect and Strategic Planning for North East India” which was jointly organised by Indian Federation of Green Energy, Assam Energy Development Agency and Assam Science Technology and Environment Council at NEDFi Convention Centre here today.
Iugurating the conference Governor Purohit said that the conference was held when drastic changes in environment are taking place due to climate change. Therefore there is a need to accelerate application of Green Energy to stimulate the growth of the country.
He also said that attempt should be made to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels which pose a threat to our energy security.
The Governor added that of all the renewable energies, solar energy is the best and safest as it is very cheap. He said that through research we need to find measures to reduce the cost of the instruments that produce solar energy.
He said that the conference will provide a unique platform bringing together various stakeholders to discuss important issues pertinent to green energy. The conference is very important for the Northeast as it is in the eco-fragile Himalayan region.
The Governor further said that total transparency should be maintained at every level and he would support the mission for promoting green energy in the North east as it is a virgin land.
Ansaheb MK Patil, former Minister of State of Rural Development and Honorary Vice-chairman, Indian Federation of Green Energy present at the iugural function said that North Eastern states have abundant resources to generate Green Energy and the present policy of the Central government to encourage green energy will lead to employment generation and utilization of ever increasing waste to generate energy.
