Purvottar tya Samaroh kicks off in Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR, Jan 21: tiol School of Drama, New Delhi, has organized a 10-day long event titled ‘Poorvottar tya Samaroh’ in Sivasagar. The festival was iugurated at Sivasagar tya Mandir on Saturday and is scheduled to continue till January 29, featuring plays by troupes from across the Northeast. The tya Samaroh is a joint initiative by the tiol School of Drama, New Delhi and Sibsagar tya Samaj, Sivasagar. The festival opened with Arun Sarma’s play, Nibaran Bhattacharyya, directed by Baharul Islam. The performances were hugely appreciated by the full-packed audience. The iugural function was attended by officials of NSD and Sibsagar tya Mandir. Talking to The Sentinel, Saurav Chaliha, executive member and chief coorditor, Sibsagar tya Samaj, said the 10-day grand festival aimed at promoting authentic drama from the north-eastern region. He said, “The Sibsagar tya Samaj is relentlessly trying to take forward the culture of theatre in Sivasagar. It is our honour to have the best plays from the Northeast to be staged here in Sivasagar.” Chaliha also thanked the tiol School of Drama, New Delhi for choosing Sivasagar for the event Purvottar tya Samaroh. He also informed that a 30-day tiol School of Drama (NSD) workshop, in collaboration with Sibsagar tya Samaj, Sivasagar, started from January 20.
