Puspadhar Gogoi gets Lachit Bota

DHEMAJI, Nov 25: Tai Scholar Dr Puspadhar Gogoi of Dhemaji was awarded the prestigious Lachit Bota in the Lachit Divas ceremony held at Guwahati. Renowned Tai Scholar Dr Gogoi was awarded Lachit Bota in a glittering function held at Lakhidhar Bora field of Guwahati.

Lachit Bota is awarded annually to the scholars who have contributed for the development Tai literature and culture. The function was organized by Tai Ahom Yuva Chatra Parishad, Assam. Dr Gogoi, a retired professor of Dhemaji College was the founder secretary of Purbanchal Tai Sahitya Sabha.  He has published more than 50 research papers, 80 books. The award comprises of an Ahom Turban, one Hengdang (sacred sword), Ahom costumes, a citation and cash award of Rs 20,000.  The Lachit Bota was awarded to Dr. Puspadhar Gogoi by Chakradhar Gogoi, MLA of Moran constituency.

A colourful procession was also taken out on the occasion. Writer Mayur Borah attended the programme as guest. A souvenir published on the occasion was released by senior jourlist Rajdip Bailung Barua. AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi, Manoj Gogoi, Prof Rajiv Handique and Mainul Haque were also present at the function. After the end of the function all guests present in the meeting moved to the bank of Dighalipukhuri and lighted 1110 lamps to commemorate Lachit Borphukan.
