PWD Minister steers clear from controversy

OUR STAFF CORRESPONDENT
SHILLONG, March 26: Meghalaya Minister In-Charge of the State Public Works Department (PWD) Sniawbhalang Dhar steered himself clear from all controversies related to clearance of the fincial  bills, besides negating the allegations that one of his brother-a contractor has found favor from the department.
Sniawbhalang Dhar admitted that he along with his elder brother and MLA were once the directors of the Dhar Construction Company, even as he said that he has not use his power to ensure that his younger brother Rocky Dhar or Dhar Constructions Private Limited  has received any political or bureaucratic patroges for clearances of any fincial clearances.
Rocky Dkhar received approximately Rs 3 crore of money for the works that he executed. But the PWD minister said that the money was sanctioned   under the plan sector under Sohra division and released on the basis of the completed work.
He claimed that there has been no favoritism in issuing the money by the cash strapped state PWD.  “There is total transparency in what the PWD is doing. The Right to Information (RTI) clauses is there for you to unravel”, confidently claimed the Minister who claimed that he is no more with the Dhar Constructions company. He said that he resigned from the board of Directors after joining politics.
While it is well known on the Dhar constructions company is run discreetly and collectively by the present two Congress  MLAs, Sniawbhalang Dhar said, “We are no more in the board of directors. The company is being run by a different magement”, adding, “Even if A B or C company received any favours, check through the RTI.”
“I am not a man who will allow the process of tendering to be flouted”, the PWD Minister asserted, even as he thrust upon the members of the scrutiny committee of the PWD as the people who should decide on who should get the job in executing works related to roads.”
Who are the members of the scrutiny committee, the minister failed to me, even as talks doing the rounds is all about the clearance that can go thorough via “Chai pani ka charcha”. Asked on this as a former contractor, Sniawbhalang simply said, “ I am a Minister .. I Don’t know about that because I  simply make it sure that the service to our citizens is not disturb.”
