Ra Goswami's degree pass certificate fake, claims Jorhat lawyer

Jorhat legislator denies allegations, says ready to denounce political life forever if charge is proved

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

JORHAT, April 1: In what could be termed as a severe blow to sitting Jorhat MLA and Congress candidate Ra Goiswami, advocate Rintu Goswami who is also a member of the BJP today alleged that Goswami manipulated his B Com pass certificate.

Goswami claimed that he is a commerce graduate from Dibrugarh University.

MLA Goswami in a press meet on 18 March had stated about some kind of crimil conspiracy by certain persons to malign his image by targeting his educatiol qualification certificates. And incidentally Ra Goswami also called for a press meet in Jorhat on Friday two hours before Rintu Goswami’s meet and warned that RTI (Right to Information) Act of 2005 is a tool meant only to collect information and without court order drawn through legal proceedings cannot simply accuse any person of being false.

MLA Goswami said, “I have called for the press meet to once again show the origil marksheets and the entire result sheets signed by the then controller of Dibrugarh University. However I am going to show only the Xerox copies as the origil mark sheets could not be brought till date. And based on those documents if they can prove the certificates to be fake, I will denounce my political life forever”.

He further added, “Actually this is a move by a particular candidate of an opposition party to malign my popularity for his political gain. The candidate feels threatened and knows that I will emerge victorious and therefore has employed such agents to harass me mentally and socially. This move is to politically murder me. And because of which I will not only file an FIR with the Jorhat Police but also file a defamation case in the court. They accuse me of failing in the English subject of the 1981 Dibrugarh University conducted B.Com examitions”.

Advocate Goswami immediately after the culmition of Ra Goswami’s press meet came up with an RTI reply furnished by the Dibrugarh University and signified on the record that clearly stated that in 1981 Ra Goswami who was then a student of the prestigious JB College and with registration number 9334 of 1978-79 and Roll number 858 in the B.Com examition of 1980 but conducted in 1981 had failed in the English subject of Group A and had secured only 16 marks and 9 marks for interl assessment thus securing 25 that was below the average pass mark of 30 out of 100.

“How can this be possible with the same person securing two different marks in the same subject that he had origilly failed? We too have photo copies of the marksheets which Ra Goswami presented before the press. His marksheets states that he secured 21 marks in English and got another 9 in interl assessment thus securing the pass mark of 30. Now who is right and who is wrong? We challenge that if a single word uttered by us can be proved wrong by the former MLA then we would happily accept any punishment,” he said.

We want CBI enquiry. Jorhat Police will give him clean chit based on the documents he will show. He may be showing a lot of documents but I appeal him to produce the origil mark sheet within 24 hours. No photostat copy but the origil copy. Only then will it become clear who is indulging in forgery and producing fake documents. Origil mark sheet of Ra Goswami which declared him fail is still retained by the Dibrugarh University. It is a human tendency to retain pass certificates and not failed mark sheets. This is a big crimil offence and conspiracy” said Rintu Goswami.

The advocate further said, “Ra Goswami in his affidavit to the returning officer while filing his nomitions had stated about being a B.Com graduate from J.B College of 1981 which is totally absurd. We will not only file a complaint but will seek legal actions against him.”
