Raax Mahotsav unites society and dispels evil forces: CM

Majuli, Nov 5: Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal who was on a two visit to Majuli to be part of Raax Mahotsav which makes Majuli a veritable centre for pilgrimage said, “Raax Mahotsav is a unifying force which dispels all evil forces”.  Iugurating a bhao as a part of Raax Mahotsav at Uttar Kamalabari Xatra in Majuli on Saturday night, Chief Minister Sonowal said that Raax Mahotsav has the potential of empowering people spiritually. He also said various forces are hell-bent in creating disturbances in the State and in the wake of this, festivals like Raax Mahotsav takes the lead in establishing peace and harmony in the society.

Chief Minister Sonowal also said that Majuli is bestowed with the blessings from Srimanta Sankardev and for empowering people spiritually and culturally this river island can play a great role. During Raax Festival, according to believers, the island becomes abode of the Lord and other heavenly figures and the Chief Minister who also visited Auniati Xatra along with Uttar Kamalabari Xatra and prayed to the Lord for the welfare of all sections of the people.

In view of the fact that during Raax Mahotsav, tourist footfalls in Majuli increase phenomelly, Sonowal said the State Government is working sincerely to make Raax an important tourist event in Majuli as well as other districts of the State. He also reiterated that the State Government is working to include Raax as an important event in the tiol Tourism calendar.

BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, Chairman, Sangeet tak Akademy Sekhar Sen and a host of other dignitaries from all walks of life were present during Sonowal’s Xatra visit.

On the side lines of his visit to Majuli, a nine-member expert team which is on the island on the occasion of Raax Festival, on Saturday night met Chief Minister Sonowal and held discussion on a broad agenda on the team’s study of the art and culture of Majuli. The team which consists of experts from India as well as other countries apprised Sonowal of their mandate of making Majuli a hotspot of tourism and an epicentre of culture.

Chief Minister Sonowal highlighted various unique features of Majuli in particular and Assam as a whole before the team and how State government is working to make Majuli a carbon neutral district. He also assured the team of experts of all possible help from the government for making Majuli a centre of attraction and an exclusive seat for neo Vaishvite movement.
