Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council election conducted peacefully

Boko: The Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) election concluded successfully and peacefully. The RHAC election was conducted in Kamrup and Goalpara districts under RHAC in total 36 constituencies of the two districts.

Total 44 candidates in Kamrup and 53 candidates in Goalpara district contested in the council election. The RHA council election was held in 216 polling stations in Kamrup district and 391 polling stations in Goalpara district. Till 4 pm, the voter turnout was 67 per cent in Kamrup district and 85 percent in Goalpara district.

Most of the Garo tribal people did not cast their votes in the election. In Kamrup district’s Malang Salabari Lower Primary School under 24 No Luki Council constituency, Garo villagers did not cast their votes. When asked, Anindra Marak, Kamrup district president of Garo National Council, said that the Garo National Council along with all other Garo organizations of Assam had already passed a resolution not to cast their votes in the council election because they had been demanding Garo Autonomous Council (GAC) from many years but every government had ignored their demand.
