Rabindranath Tagore’s artistic talents enlightened contemporary Assamese writers

Dibrugarh: “Rabindranath Tagore’s artistic talents enlightened his contemporary Assamese writers too along with other writers. Though initially he did not express any high opinion regarding Assamese language, later he changed his view,” said Dr. Pallavi Deka Buzarboruah, Professor, Dibrugarh University (DU) while delivering an oration on the topic ‘Rabindranath and Contemporary Assam’ at DHSK Commerce College recently.

She added, “Parts of his two separate letters on two different issues were once published together somewhere, which created misunderstanding among Assamese people. He was too unhappy for the same. Later, the misunderstanding came to light.”

The oration was inaugurated by Dr. Gayatri Devi Goswami, vice principal of MDK Girls’ College. In her inaugural speech, she mentioned about the three visits of Kabi Guru Rabindranath to Assam, his love for the natural beauty of Assam, his family’s inter-State marriage ties with different States, including Assam, as well as availability of Rabindra literature in different ethnic languages of the State.

The function, organized by the Assamese department in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the institution, was chaired by Pulin Rajbongshi, vice principal of the college. Ananta Teron, Associate Professor, Department of Assamese, DHSK College, graced the occasion as the special guest and in his speech he threw light on the world-brotherhood ideology as well as the unanimously accepted personality of Rabindranath. Pulin Rajbongshi, in his presidential speech opined that Rabindranath’s multi-faceted talent ought to be ideal for all of us. Nabajyoti Dutta, Head of the Assamese department, stated the aim and objective of holding the oration.
