Rafting expedition taps tourism prospects

ITAGAR, Dec 13: A three-day long white water rafting expedition carried out at the Kameng River at Seppa in East Kameng district by the Rang Adventurous Team of Rang Welfare Society (RWS) has unearthed the potential of promoting adventure tourism in the East and West Kameng districts.
The expedition which was carried out in a bid to promote adventure tourism in these districts had seven members mely Mara Kocho, Kaya Rang, Rai Tamar, Aabing Tallang, Taguk Rang, Sangkam Tamar and Ashok Rang participate in it. The rafting team which set off for the voyage from Pacha Morang here on December 09 traversed through a total of 80 rapids. During the course various birds and wild animals such as hornbill, crane, deer, leopard, monkey, elephant etc were also sighted.
After covering a distance of almost 100kms the expedition filly culmited at the race point of 600MW Kameng HEP of NEEPCO in Kimin on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the members of expedition have expressed confidence that white water rafting over Kameng River has all the potential to lure adventure enthusiasts from all over the world and all that was needed was to promote the same.
“As of now the takers for this rafting expedition is very less due to lack of promotion, however, the state’s tourism department should conduct expeditions in this stretch every year to promote adventure tourism in a larger way. Once developed, it would prove to be a revenue generator for the state and also provide job opportunities to the local youths,” said RWS chairman Mara Kocho.
