'Rahul Gandhi will take over soon'

SHILLONG, Oct 7: Congress leader Salman Khurshid on Saturday said that there would be a generatiol shift in the leadership of the party soon.

“I can say that it is now objectively clear that the generatiol change in leadership is now on the anvil. It will happen,” Khurshid told mediapersons here.

Rahul Gandhi’s corotion as the Congress president is expected by the end of this month.

Khurshid said that Rahul Gandhi should take over the party with a focus on the crucial 2019 Lok Sabha election.

Khurshid further said that the party is hopeful that he should take this decision (to lead the Congress) soon.

According to Khurshid, Rahul Gandhi is already part of the triumvirate – Congress president Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and as the party vice president. 

“So we have accepted him as our leader. He’s not president but vice president, so he’s number two,” he stated.

As per Khurshid’s view once a person is accepted as a leader, then one has to go by their decision. Urging people not to speculate on when he will take over the mantle of the Congress, Khurshid said, “He has something in his mind, and I think he’s working to a plan, and so as and when he makes up his mind, he discloses his plan to us, we will be there to support him. I persolly think we should not speculate – when will he come, why will he come.”
