Rai Zaffar wins AITA U-18 title

Guwahati, Aug 11: Unseeded Rai Zaffar of Assam lifted the U-18 AITA Tennis Championship series-7 title held at at Van Sports Club, Gurgaon in Harya today, beating 3rd seed Ishita Singh of Delhi, who conceded the match. On her way up to the fils, Rai defeated 4th seed Anu Mor (HR) 4-6,6-1,6-4 in the pre-quarter, 6th seed Rithika Yadav(DL) 7-5,6-2 in the quarter- fil and 7th seed Renee Singla(HR) 6-2,6-1 in the semifil.

Rai was a semi filist at the tiol Ranking Girls U-16 Championship Series played in Gurgaon in July 2016. She was the winner of Doubles at the tiol Ranking Girls U-18 Championship played in Kolkata in October 2016.

Rai’s mother, zneen Zaffar, is an Administrator of Cross Court Tennis Sessions while her father Shahwaz Zaffar is a NIS certified tennis coach.
