Itanagar: Continuous downpour over the past few days has triggered landslides in several districts in Arunachal Pradesh snapping surface communications.

The continuous rainfall has triggered landslide at Gangkak-Yomcha road in West Siang district snapping surface communication between the two circle headquarters, official sources informed here on Friday. Restoration work is being carried out by Yayum Gangkak, Director of Sirurijo Tea Garden, to make thorough the road for commuters using her own resources. She disclosed that she is up to the task of clearing the debris from her side for the fifth time.

Meanwhile, the bridge connecting Gaming village in the district had collapsed due to flood for which the villagers are facing hardships to follow a long route, the sources added. Rain triggered landslides also reported along the NH 415 between Itanagar and Naharlagun but were cleared by the PWD department. Rain also disrupted surface communication in several other districts of the State.

The road that leads to the SP (Capital) office here is in a deplorable state, with motorists facing a harrowing time navigating it. Even though the condition of road has been deteriorating, the PWD is yet to carry out any repair work on it. In the last few days, several two-wheelers reportedly met with accidents because of the road’s condition.

“This road connects Ganga area with DDK and ESS Sector. It is a very important distributor road and helps to decongest the main highway. We have made several appeals to the PWD to repair it, but so far there is no outcome,” said a local resident. Reportedly, the monsoon rains have further damaged the road in recent days.
