Raising Day of Headquarters 101 Area observed

Shillong, April 22: The 55th Raising Day of Headquarters 101 Area was celebrated with traditional military elan and fervour on April 22. Headquarters 101 area was raised in 1963 as headquarters 101 communication zone. During 1966, when Mizoram was gripped with insurgency, the formation was tasked to conduct counter insurgency operations in Mizoram. The formation did a commendable job of winning the hearts and minds of the local populace and continued to perform this task till 1969. During the 1971 war, the formation took active part in combat operations in Sylhet and Mymensingh districts of the erstwhile East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and was the first to reach Dacca, thereby earning the accolade “First in Dacca”.

Lieutenant General Depinder Singh Ahuja, avsm, General Officer Commanding, 101 Area, laid a wreath at the war memorial to commemorate the martyrs and addressed all ranks of Headquarters 101 Area in a special Sainik Sammelan. This was stated in a press release.
