NEW DELHI: Sitting MP from Tezpur Lok Sabha constituency Ram Prasad Sarmah on Saturday resigned from the primary membership of the BJP after he was denied party ticket for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election.

“I have served the BJP and the RSS for the last several years. I have given everything to the party… how can they treat me like this? I am shocked that my name did not appear even in the party’s election panel lists,” said Sarmah.

He accused Himanta Biswa Sarma of betraying him. “Himanta and I was moving in the same car the day before yesterday, but he never told me that something of this kind is going to happen,” said Sarmah, adding, “He (Himanta) has come from the Congress party and now he has been placed at the helm of affairs in the State.”

He further hinted that he will contest from another party. “I am getting calls from other national parties including the Congress, NPP, TMC among others... I will definitely join another party and contest the election. I will also ensure that the political party I join wins the next Assembly election too,” claimed Sarmah.
