Ranji Trophy: Krishna Das keeps Goa’s hope alive

GUWAHATI: A nice spell from Krishna Das kept Goa in the match as Assam, conceded 18 runs first innings lead, were 119-4 in their second innings in the Ranji Trophy tie at the ACA Stadium here today. All four wickets, which Assam lost in the second innings, were collected by former pacer of Assam.

Goa knew it very well that 18 runs lead would not help them at all unless the side collected a few early wickets in Assam second innings. Although the other bowlers didn’t able to create panic on Assam batsmen it was Krishna alone who pushed the fight to the opponent camp. He first took opener Biplab Saikia when the batsman was 17. Later, when the other opener Rishav Das (51no), who looked very good in the middle today, and Sibsankar Roy started to stitch the damage Krishna stroke again and removed Sibsankar (19). Gokul Sarma(5) was his third victim and later Sarupam Purkayastha (15) too lost his wicket on the bowling of Krishna.

Rishav, however, played a matured knock. The batsman was on the wicket for nearly 223 minutes and tried to play the balls according to the merit. He required 114 balls to score unbeaten 51 runs and there were five hits to the fence. He was giving accompany by captain Amit Sinha (9 no) at stumps on day II.

Earlier Goa, started from their overnight first innings score 66-1, progressed well in the morning as Sumiran Amonkar and Snehal Kauthankar played very cautiously and took the score beyond 100 without losing a wicket. However once Ranjeet Mali removed Sumiran (35) on teams total 107 Goa started to lost wicket on regular interval. Mukhtar (3-67) too bowled well and picked up three wickets in the morning. The other wickets, which Goa lost this morning, were collected by Ranjeet Mali (2-37) and Pallav Kumar Das (2-7). Snehal, the top scorer for Goa, contributed 69 runs (4X8) on the board.
