Rape accused surrenders, three others absconding

Tezpur, May 11: A rape accused surrendered on Tuesday evening at the Dhekiajuli police station and was sent to Tezpur Jail on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Abdul Rafique, was allegedly closely attached with the organizatiol works of Muslim Students’ Union of Assam (MSUA). He, along with three of his friends, was allegedly involved in the gang rape of a school-going girl of nkey village under Dhekiajuli PS few days back. The incident happened before May 6.

As stated in the FIR lodged against the four accused by the family members of the victim, she had gone out of her house at 7 pm and was forcefully dragged into a tea garden and raped by the four accused. However, mysteriously at midnight, the brother of one of the accused, Mahamad Karim handed over the girl to her family and threatened them not to inform the police. However, the family members lodged a complaint on May 6, based on which police have been carrying out investigation. The three other accused med in the FIR - Mahmad Sanni, Md. Salan and Nurjamal – are absconding. AASAA and ATTSAA have urged the police administration to b the culprits without any delay otherwise they will launch an agitation.
