Rape in the name of spiritual healing: Self-styled godman, two women arrested for allegedly raping teacher in Delhi

A 24-year-old woman in Delhi has lodged a complaint against a self-styled spiritual healer for allegedly raping her on the ground of curing illness.

The matter was exposed after the victim narrated her ordeal to the Delhi Commission for Women via an e-mail.

The victim in her letter said that she was not only raped by the spiritual leader inside his ashram but was also molested by his woman associates.

According to new reports on Sunday Police have arrested the self-styled godman and his woman secretary for allegedly raping the victim at his ashram in west Delhi’s Janakpuri in July.

As stated by Monika Bhardwaj, deputy commissioner of police (west) the 40-year-old Hari Narayan, allegedly raped the woman following mixing drugs in her food, with the assistance of his secretary.

She further said, "We have arrested Narayan from Nainital and are bringing him to Delhi for further questioning. We had arrested the other two earlier in connection with the case,"

The police informed that the victim is a resident Uttar Pradesh who works at a private school.An investigator said, “When the woman shared some of her personal problems with her colleague, she advised her to go through a spiritual healing experience at an ashram in Janakpuri.”

The victim visited Hari Narayan's “spiritual centre” named Aadya Param Yog Peeth in Janakpuri by having a reference from a colleague.

The woman accompanied by her colleague visited the Ashram on July 10. The “healing” process in the Ashram which began with the woman being asked to bathe and have dinner, which was mixed with sedatives. Thenceforth, Narayan allegedly raped the woman in front of the secretary and the colleague.

The DCP said that the woman wasn’t sure how to react to the situation until a week ago when she decided to write an email to the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW).

The DCW officials guided the woman approached police following which a case of rape and criminal conspiracy was registered at Janakpuri police station on last Friday.
