Rape & murder AJYWO seeks death sentence for accused

SHILLONG, Feb 7: The central Body of the All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organisation (AJYWO) has condemned the rape and murder of two minor girls aged three and 11 respectively in two separate incidents by one Emvyris Dkhar alias Micheal Dkhar of Lad-Sutnga village.

It may be recalled that following the confession of the accused, Khliehriat Police fished out the body of the 11-year-old victim, who went missing three months back, from an abandoned coal mine situated at Jalyiah village, around 10 km from Lad Sutnga in East Jaintia Hills.

The victim was allegedly raped and murdered by Michael Dkhar alias Emvyris Dkhar of Lad-Sutnga village who later dumped the body in the abandoned coal mine.

The accused later confessed that he also raped and murdered the Talang who hailed from Nongjngi Khliehshnong, West Jaintia Hills. He committed the crime at Lad-Sutnga on November 17 last.

“This a barbarian act and to tackle such rape cases the law should be stricter,” H Dkhar, president of AJYWO central body said here on Sunday.

He said the organisation condemned the heinous crime. He also expressed concern over the growing rape cases against in the state.

“We have urged the police and the High Court to take stronger action against anyone involved in such cases of rape and murder,” he said.
