Silchar, Sept 21: “rendra Modi is bent upon bringing digital revolution in the whole country. He is of the opinion that much time has been lost in just thinking about developing Northeast region,” said Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Law and Justice, Electronics and Information Technology, while delivering a lecture on ‘Digital Advancement in India – Presenting New Opportunities for Northeast’ organized by Bimolangshu Roy Foundation (BRF) on the occasion of the 79th birth anniversary of late Bimolangshu Roy at Banga Bhawan in silchar on Wednesday.
“It is the unshaken belief of 125 crore people that has catapulted the Prime Minister to an elevated and lofty status. His visions for the development of Northeast region make him the most popular Prime Minister. It is high time that some concrete and positive steps should be taken to usher in a new dawn of development. That is why the thrust of Modi Government has been Act East Policy,” said Ravi Shankar Prasad. In this regard, proposals for setting up of a 200 capacity BPO and a Software Technology Park are already under process. “I am hopeful that sufficient land will be allotted for this,” he added to say.
Ravi Shankar Prasad laid stress on Aadhaar card initiative which has almost revolutiolized and digitalized the whole of India. “Out of 125 crore people, 118 crore have Aadhaar cards. It is a product of Digital India programme. There are various advantages of it, said Ravi Shankar Prasad. Infiltrators can be identified very easily which, in the future course of time, might be helpful in resolving the issue of ‘D’ voters in the state of Assam. He also spoke at length about the growth, development, rise and ascent of BJP. “68% of India population are ruled by BJP. 13 states are now been ruled by BJP”, he added to say.
“Out of the total population of the country, 121 crore have cell phones. 50 crore have smartphones. The network of tiol optical fibre scheme launched in 2011 is on way to completion. It will connect and lit 90,000 GPs. In 3 years, we have completed around 2 lakh 20 thousand kms laying of optical fibre. We are working for the uplift of the poor. Subsidies, Aadhaar cards, MNREGA payment and others have been provided to the people within a time bound action plan. Digital governce is good governce as there is no scope of corruption in it,” the Minister added to say.
Earlier, former Union Minister Kabindra Purkayastha impressed upon Ravi Shankar Prasad to look into the issues of NRC, ‘D’ voters, citizenship, resurrection of Cachar Paper Mill and communication problem in Barak Valley. These issues have been plaguing the Valley since long. Among others present on the occasion included, Ravi Kapoor, IAS, Additiol Chief Secretary, Government of Assam.
