SHILLONG, Feb 4: Meghalaya-based custom sleuths recovered a huge cache of rcotics items from East Jaintia Hills district. Acting on specific intelligence, the sleuths detained one truck bearing galand registration number near Thangsalai village

On Shillong by-pass on February 2, 29,600 bottles of Phensedyl Cough Linctus and codeine based medicil preparation concealed under sacks of onion were seized. 86 bags of onion and a truck have been seized and a case was registered under the provisions of NDPS Act, 1985.

Total value of seizure is Rs 49, 92,752. Prelimiry investigation suggests that the consignment of Phensedyl was loaded in Siliguri and was bound for Agartala for smuggling to Bangladesh.

There is very high demand of this cough syrup in Bangladesh and are sold at a premium and that is why unscrupulous elements adopt innovative modus operandi to transport Phensedyl to Agartala.
