Re-election of NCHAC CEM on February 16

Haflong, Feb 14: Even though Debojit Thaosen of Congress on Saturday was elected as the new chief executive member (CEM) of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), Assam Governor has directed the chairman of the council to hold election of Chief Executive Member (CEM) and Executive Committee again.

The Governor through a letter (No. GSA.46/2015/181 dated 13/02 2016 ) on Saturday directed that the election of the new Chief Executive Member (CEM) and Executive Committee be taken up in accordance with provisions under Rule 20 as provided in Rule 21(1).

Meanwhile, following Governor’s directive, the Chairman of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council has fixed February 16 as the date for the election of new Chief Executive Member (CEM).

The session will be held at 11.00 am in the Council Assembly Hall, Haflong, notified by the Secretary, N C Hills Autonomous Council, Haflong M Kemprai.

The Chairman also notified that at any time before noon on February 15, any member of the NC HIls Autonomous Council may nomite another Member for election of Chief Executive Member (CEM).

The nomition paper (which may be in plain paper) should state the me of the member nomited and proposer must verify to the effect that he has ascertained that such member is willing to serve as Chief Executive Member (CEM), if elected, the Chairman said.

It may be mentioned that after the no-trust motion was moved against the then CEM Niranjan Hojai on February 11,  Debojeet Thaosen was elected as the CEM of NCHAC on February 13 but following the Governor’s communication the election was made null and void.

Thaosen was elected for the post of Chairman of NCHAC for the third time. He was elected to the 11th council from Langting seat.
