Real enemies of the people of Assam are not Bangladeshi immigrants but our own political leaders: Upamanyu Hazarika

Guwahati: Prabajan Virodhi Manch Convener and Senior Advocate Upamanyu Hazarika in a press statement on Tuesday claimed that the State Government is partly to a conspiracy along with others to create a rift among the populace and move the people away from the real issue—illegal immigration.

Hazarika also reportedly claimed that such a disclosure will only help the political parties for the upcoming elections and will prove detrimental for the people.

It may be noted that, recently, Prabajan Virodhi Manch has come to know that no Bengali organizations had made any request to the Veterinary College authorities for organizing any rally on November 17. In fact, when Prabajan Virodhi Manch tried to make an application for the ground on October 24, their request was rejected on the basis that the ground was reserved for Veterinary College’s College Week for November 17, 2018.

He further mentioned that an organization has to seek permission before organizing any such rally and announcing the same in the public. Moreover, the venue has to be ensured by taking permissions for reserving the ground for the event. However, “In this case, no such permission was taken but there was a massive publicity that Bengali organizations will organize a big rally. This led to massive unrest and lot of hue and cry across Assam,” said Upamanyu Hazarika in the press statement.

He further alleged that that, on one hand, several Bengali organizations made inciteful speeches and remarks, while the Government, even after knowing that no permission was taken for the rally said that no such event will be allowed in the Veterinary ground premises, thus, keeping the issue alive.

“The real enemies of the people of Assam are not the Bangladeshi immigrants but our own political leaders, who play politics over the future and existence of the indigenous people,” adding, “The threat to the existence of indigenous people has not only come from the Citizenship Amendment Bill but also from the existing illegal immigrants who heading towards a majority across Lower and Middle Assam and slowly sleeping into Upper Assam,” added Upamanyu Hazarika.

He claimed that for the past 29 months, this BJP led Government have made only false assurances to the people for their own political gains.

Meanwhile, Upamanyu Hazarika in order to restrict the illegal immigration by illegal migrants inside the state had suggested for the immediate introduction of protective legislation- reserving lands, government jobs, trade licences on lines of the Bill recently passed by the Manipur State Assembly on the basis of 1951 NRC should also be passed Assam Legislature. He also mentioned that discrepancies in the NRC to be removed by re-verification of those included in the border and migrant dominated Districts.

Furthermore, he also stated that it has to be ensured that no new immigration takes place through instruments like the Citizenship Amendment Bill or any other law.
