Reconsider compensation notification: BJP

FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT

Itagar, March 25: The BJP in Aruchal Pradesh has requested the state government to review its notification on the manner of determining the market value of land compensation, saying there are flaws in the notification.

“The notification of the state government to determine the base rate of multiplication factor of the market value for the purpose of determition of compensation for acquisition of land in respect of rural and urban areas is not practically applicable in Aruchal Pradesh,” the party stated in a representation to the chief minister. It said ‘Factor 1 and Factor 2 in the notification (issued on January this year) are to be applied to urban and rural areas respectively to determine the compensation for acquisition of land as per the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act.”

But, it said the notification of the state government has rendered the entire state as urban areas. The notification says that Factor 2 will be applicable only if the radial distance is above 40 kms from urban areas. “This would put all the villages in the periphery of Itagar under urban area. The people living in rural areas beyond the demarcation of Itagar urban area will not get the benefit of Factor 2. If 40 km radial distance is taken into consideration, then in case of Itagar, it will cross beyond Banderdewa and Hollongi, whereas these two places do not fall under urban areas,” it added.
