Recovery of unidentified bodies on the rise

Guwahati, April 19: As per Guwahati City Police records, there has been a rise in the recovery of unidentified bodies in the city over the years.  Presently 20 police stations are working under the jurisciction of under Guwahati police Commissioner.

As per records, in 2016 the number of unidentified bodies recovered by the police in the city stood at 105  of which 92 were male  and 13 were female. Likewise in 2017, unidentified bodies of 111 persons – 89 male and 22 female  were recovered.

Significantly, majority of such bodies were recovered by Bhangagarh police station. In 2016 Bhangagarh PS recovered 31 unidentified bodies  - 28 being male 28 and 3 female.  Similarly, 42 bodies were recovered by Bhangagarh police in 2017. Of these bodies 30 were male and 12 were female.

Interestingly, the presence of the Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) within the jurisdiction of the Bhangagarh PS is being attributed as the main as to why the PS is in the forefront on this count. It is a known fact that a large number of persons, like beggars, without  proper address get admitted to the GMCH and when such persons die they remain unidentified.

Next in the line is Jalukbari PS with record of 11 unidentifiew bodies each year in 2016 and 2017.  In the case of Panbazar PS, in 2016 11 unidentified bodies were, while the same in 2017 stood at 10.
