Republic Day celebrated across State

SHILLONG, Jan 27: At Ampati, Mahendraganj Legislator & Chairperson, Meghalaya Resources & Employment Council, Dikkanchi D. Shira unfurled the tiol Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute at Ampati Students’ Field.

The parade by ten platoons, consisting of the Meghalaya Police and Scouts & Guides from various schools, was led by DSP Silvester Marak during the ceremonial function, while 17 Government departments and agencies displayed impressive tableaus and floats depicting the initiatives and programmes being taken up for the benefit of the people. The tableaus presented Election department, Basin Development Unit (IBDLP) and the District Unit of SSA bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively.

Other highlights of the day’s celebration were the cultural programme, children’s sports and the fil match of the Gramoday Football Tourment organized under Gramoday Initiative of the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority.

At Tura, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Zenith M Sangma unfurled the tiol tricolor and took the Rashtriya salute at Dikki Bandi Stadium, Dakopgre, Tura. There were 11 Parade Contingents comprising of Meghalaya police, 2nd MLP Battalion, Band party and school students.

The other highlights of the day include cultural programme, tableaux presentation, games and sports for children and tug of war for both men and women. Various Government departments of West Garo Hills district participated in the tableaux presentation where the first prize is bagged by the Department of Art and Culture, 2nd prize by District Commerce and Industries Centre, and the 3rd prize by the Department of Soil and Water Conservation.

At Williamgar, Minister, School Education and Literacy, Deborah C Marak unfurled the tiol Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 15 marching contingents comprising of Meghalaya Police, school students, Scouts and Guides and NCC at Rongrenggre Government Higher Secondary School playground.

Cultural programmes, tableau presentation by various Government Departments were the other highlights of the day.

At Resubelpara, Health and Family Welfare Minister, Roshan Warjri unfurled the tiol Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 11 Parade contingents consisting of Police personnel, NCC, Scouts & Guides and School children at Resubelpara Mini Stadium.

Cultural programmes, displaying the rich culture of the region, patriotic songs, instrumental play and free lottery by the BDU, sweets, eggs and fruits distribution to the children and patients of CHC Resubelpara, games and sports and a friendly football match were the other highlights of the day.

At Baghmara, Arts and Culture Minister, RV Lyndoh unfurled the tiol flag and took the Rashtriya salute at District Government Higher Secondary School Playground. The marching contingent consisted of Meghalaya Police, BSF 141BN BSF, JNV school students, Government Higher Secondary School and Rangku Memorial School.

Other highlights of the day include tableau presentation, children’s sports and tug of war competition.

At Jowai, Deputy Chief Minister RC Laloo unfurled the tiol Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 27 marching contingents which included the  DEF (District Executive Force), 3rd Battalion, District Home Guard, Pipe band from the central training Institute Civil Defence & Home Guards, Shillong, Bharat Scouts and Guides, NCC from Thomas Jones Synod College, Jowai, NSS from Kiang ngbah Government College, and 21 schools at Jrisalein Playground.

The Deputy Chief Minister also presented the KAYAKALP award alongwith a cash prize of Rs. 2,00,000 (two Lakhs) to rtiang PHC. The best marching contingent was awarded to Government Boys Higher secondary, School, Jowai, Q. C. Springside English Secondary School and Government Girl Higher Secondary bagged the Second and third respectively. The best Tableau was awarded to District Commerce & Industries Centre, Jowai showcasing ‘Go Digital’, Second prize was awarded to Water Resource Department and Agriculture department displaying on the theme- “Ka jingmyntoi wa ioh I ka rep ka riang lada pynemkam I da ki Machineries” and Roof Top Rain Water Harvesting” and the Sericulture and weaving Department bagged the third prize.

Other highlights of the day include songs, dance, bike stunt and distribution of gifts by Government Departments and Social Organizations to patients, inmates at Dr. Norman Tunnel Hospital, Jowai Civil Hospital and District Jail.

At Khliehriat, Power Minister, Sniawbhalang Dhar, unfurled the tiol Flag and also took the Rashtriya Salute of the eleven parade contingents consisting of school students and the Meghalaya Police at Khliehriat Higher Secondary School Playground.

The Minister also gave away the prizes to the best Marching Contingent which was bagged by the Step by Step Secondary School Wapung. In tableau presentation, the District Basin Development Unit, Khliehriat bagged the first prize. Shri J. Dkhar Parliamentary Secretary to the government of Meghalaya also distributed the prizes to the best PHC in the District which was bagged by the Rymbai Public Health Centre. He also gave away the award to the best green and clean villages in the District in which Wahiajer rpuh bagged the third prize, second by the Lamyrsiang Village while Latyrke Village bagged the first prize.

At Nongstoin, Home Minister, HDR Lyngdoh unfurled the tiol Flag and took the Rastriya salute of the 14 parade contingents which included Police, NCC and school students at New Nongstoin Playground.

The celebration was added more colorful, with the presentation of Tableaus from different department comprising of Soil and water conservation, industries, agriculture and forest & environment etc.

At Mawkyrwat, DCA Minister, Prestone Tynsong unfurled the tiol Flag and took the Rashtriya salute at Maharam Government Higher Secondary School, Mawkyrwat.

The other highlights of the day were sports and Games, Football Match, Cultural programmes and distribution of sweets to patients of C.H.C, Mawkyrwat and inmates of Hope Orphage Trust. Tableau were also displayed by different departments wherein Horticulture was awarded the 1st Prize followed by AH & Vety in the 2nd and P.H.E in the 3rd Prize.

At Nongpoh, I&PR Minister, Dr. M. Ampareen Lyngdoh unfurled the tiol flag and took the Rashtriya salute of 15 contingents which includes Meghalaya Police, NCC Cadre, Scouts & Guides, School Students from various schools and a Band from St. Paul’s Higher Secondary School, Nongpoh at NSCA Mini Stadium, Pahamsyiem Nongpoh, Ri Bhoi District.  

At Sohra Civil Sub-Division, Parliamentary Secretary, Robinus Syngkon unfurled the tiol Flag and took the Rashtriya salute of the marching contingents comprising of Meghalaya Police, Armed Branch Shillong, and MLP Sohra Police Station, NCC contingents of Ram Khrish Mission School and 11 schools at Sohra Sports Stadium, Saitsohpen, Sohra.

At Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division, Forests and Environment Minister, Clement Marak unfurled the tiol flag and took the Rashtriya salute of the marching contingents consisting of Tiny Rose Secondary School (Boys and Girls), Dadenggre Puri Higher Secondary School (Boys and Girls)  and Little Flower Secondary School (Boys and Girls).

At Amlarem Civil Sub-Division, Shri Stephanson Mukhim, Parliamentary Secretary and local MLA unfurled the tiol Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute.
