SHILLONG, 29 April: The ADAM (All Drivers Association Meghalaya) submitted a representation to the State Transport Authority (STA) on April 24 regarding the absence of a full-fledged Secretary and a DTO at Ri Bhoi District.

The representation stated the hardship faced by the common people that stemmed out from the interim arrangement made by the government.

Chairman of ADAM, S. Mallai said, “It has become very difficult for the public to run around the DTO Nongpoh for their pending applications, especially for those people coming from rural areas.”

He also informed that for the past three months, the post of DTO is being looked after by the District Magistrate in charge of Land and Revenue department J. Shylla. The magistrate is already having a lot of responsibilities in his own department and the additiol charge as a DTO has slowed down the functioning of the DTO.

“People coming from rural areas are having to run from pillar to post to get their work done , and most of the time the temporary DTO is not available at his office,” adding that this has caused a lot of difficulties for the common man, said S. Mallai. He further added that the uvailability of a full-fledged secretary in the STA is also causing inconvenience to the people who have applied for permits etc.
