BILASIPARA, May 26: State Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley laid the foundation stone of the Prachin Bhasa Sanskriti Gabesana Kendra at Bilasipara in the ward No.7 under Bilasipara Town Committee on Friday. The Government of Assam has sanctioned Rs. 50 lakh for the project.

In the year 1997, the 63rd session of the Axam Xahitya Xabha was held at Bilasipara and former Chief Minister Sarat Chandra Sinha was the president of the reception committee. Out of the surplus fund of the reception committee, Sinha purchased 4 bighas of land in the heart of Bilasipara town for research of ancient literature and culture. But due to paucity of fund, nothing could be done so long. After 20 years, at the initiative of Ashok Kumar Singhi, MLA of Bilasipara East LAC, the government sanctioned Rs 50 lakh for the construction of the project.

In this connection, a largely attended public meeting was held just after the laying of foundation stone in the premises of Bilasipara branch of Axam Xahitya Xabha with MLA Ashok Kumar Singhi in the chair. Among others, the meeting was addressed by minister Naba Kumar Doley and Golakgonj MLA Aswini Roy Sarker.

MLA Ashok Kumar Singhi, while addressing the meeting, declared a grant of Rs 3 lakh for the construction of the building of Bilasipara Press Club. Minister Naba Kumar Doley also laid the foundation stone of the administrative building and hostel building of the District Panchayat Resource Centre (DPRC) at Ranigonj in Bilasipara East LAC.
