Research on political history of State, OKDISCD director visits Arunachal

Itanagar, May 3: Guwahati-based Omyio Kumar Das Institute of Social Change and Development (OKDISCD) director Prof Bhupen Sarmah was on a three-day mission here to conduct an in-depth research on political history of Arunachal Pradesh.

Prof Sarmah, who landed here on April 30 at the initiative of senior journalist Pradeep Kumar, had a threadbare discussion with People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) president Kahfa Bengia, secretary general Kaling Jerang and senior leader Tanga Byaling.

He visited Jawaharlal State Museum and research directorate. Research department social science researcher R N Koley facilitated his visit to the State archive, having invaluable records dating back to 1872 including political history, migration, 1962 Chinese war etc.

Prof Sharmah bought a large number of books on various subjects published by the research department and also sought help of State’s first Chief Minister P K Thungon, who assured of meeting him and helping in the research work.

He collected electoral records right from the beginning till date from Joint Chief Electoral Officer D J Bhattacharjee before leaving the State on Wednesday with an assurance to return soon on his research mission.
