Reserve Bank of India (RBI) : New Lavender Coloured 100 Rupee Notes To Be On Circulation By August

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) stated that they will release a new Rs. 100 denomination currency note. The new Rs. 100 note will on circulation as early as from August,2018. Even though the old Rs 100 will not be withdrawn as the new notes come into its circulation. Many experts believe that the new note will warrant transformation on automated teller machines (ATMs), in order to adjust or calibrate the system.

The new Rs. 100 note carried a theme of Rani-ki-Vav (Queen's stepwell) on the reverse, depicting the country’s cultural heritage. The concept of theme-based notes started when the first 200 rupee banknote was introduced with a motif of "Sanchi Stupa" on the reverse. It is lavender in colour and it will be bigger than the Rs 10 note but will weigh less than the old Rs 100 note. It will be equipped with several micro-security features. The Dewas-based Bank Note Press has already started printing the new Rs 100 notes and the notes are believed to be released shortly.
