FROM A CORRESPONDENT
BARPETA, May 3: More than 100 locals of Dharamtala village under Patavharkuchi police station in Barpeta districts observed the May Day by repairing the one-km-long road which links the village with NH-31. The villagers have collected money from every household and purchased sand and gravel for the repair work. It’s worth mentioning that the condition of the road became very poor with full of potholes and mud as it is used by commuters of several villages like Niz Sariha, Jalikhata, Hela, Oukuchi etc., to reach the tiol highway. All types of vehicles, including school buses, run on the road every day. Villagers alleged that lack of necessary repair work and authorities’ indifferent attitude towards the issue turned the road into a death trap with several big potholes on it. The road repair work was carried out under the aegis of Dharamtala Village Development Committee. Pabindra Deka, former MLA of Patacharkuchi LAC, visited the site and doted Rs 1,000, assuring that if he comes to power, he will ensure construction of a concrete road. Dr Ranjit Deka, Rector-cum-Principal of Anundoram Barooah Academy, Pathsala, also extended a monitory help of Rs 5,000.
