Restore normalcy at RGGPI: Kaso

Itanagar, May 1: Urban Development Parliamentary Secretary Techi Kaso visited the Rajiv Gandhi Government Polytechnic Institute (RGGPI) to discuss the problems faced by the students after a thunderstorm on Thursday left behind a trail of devastation. RGGPI Principal Dr AK Tripathy said the roofs of the boys’ and girls’ hostel were blown away in the storm and also damaged several windows and other infrastructure of the institute. The students have been shifted to the ground floor as temporary arrangement. Kaso requested Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner Prince Dhawan to take up the matter of repair and maintenance of the hostels immediately to restore normalcy in the institute. Higher & Technical Education Director Dr Tayek Talom also visited the institute and surveyed the extent of damages caused by the devastating storm. He was accompanied by Dr Tripathy and campus in-charge Arun Joram.  They also discussed possible measures to mend the damages.

 Later, Kaso along with Itanagar ZPM Techi Mecha, Chimpu ASM Datt Bamang Aman and social worker Taro Tagia visited several places in Itanagar which were severely affected by the storm.

Kaso provided immediate cash relief to several victims at Birup Colony, Chimpu-I, II and other places, amounting to Rs 7 lakh. He also provided support for conducting social service at the Kangko Village Baptist Church, the Chimpu-I Baptist Church, the Revival Church in Chimpu, and the Chimpu Baptist Church – all affected by the thunderstorm.

Earlier, on Friday, Kaso visited several other places in Naharlagun, Jullang and Itanagar, met families affected by the storm and assured of government’s support, an official release stated.
