BISWANATH CHARIALI, July 23: The retired headmaster of Gohpur Girls’ High School and a well-known social worker, Chidananda Hazarika was electrocuted on Sunday due to the alleged lackadaisical attitude of APDCL at his neighbour’s house at Solengi under Gohpur Police Station in Biswanath district. He was 62.

According to sources, Hazarika unknowingly touched a naked wire lying on the ground in the orchard of his neighbour while he was returning after grazing his cows, leading to his death. Significantly, the power supply to the neighbour’s house had been disconnected by APCDL for non-payment of electricity bill so people have raised questions as to how power supply was still on.

Hazarika was associated with the Axam Xahitya Xabha, Sports’ Association, Jati-Janagosthiya Sahitya-Sanskriti Parishad and other organizations. He leaves behind his wife, son, daughter and a host of relatives. His death was widely mourned.
