Rich tributes paid to cultural icon Jyoti Prasad

Tezpur, June 17: The Tezpur Sahitya Sabha today observed the 113th birth anniversary of Rup Kwnor Jyoti Prashad Agarwala at Tezpur Sahitya Sabha Bhawan here.

In the beginning the cultural icon was paid rich tribute with banti prajallan by the office bearers of the Tezpur Sahitya Sabha. Commemorating the cultural legend on the occasion, Minkshi Bhuyan said, “Our children should be given knowledge on songs and poetry of Rup Kwonor Jyotiprashad Agarwala for making them good citizen of the society.”

Another speaker, Bishnu Prashad Rabha award winner, noted actress Krish Das th said that creativity is soul of the artiste and this creativity provides the immortality to an artist.

 “Rupknwor Jyoti Prashad Agarwala had this quality for which he will always remain alive in the heart of the common people,” she said.

She also urged all concerned to teach the children songs of Koalguru Bishnu Prashad Rabha, Jyoti Prashad Agarwala and Bhupen Hazarika.

President of Tezpur Sahitya Sabha in his speech said that Jyoti Prashad introduced Assamese modern song on the basis of folk song. “At the age of only 14 years, he could show his talent by unmatched play like Sonit Kwonri. He was a real artist always standing for the cause of the common people,” he said.  The brief function started with Asom Sahitya Sabha’s theme song sira senehi mur bhasha jani by the Sahitya Sabha members was conducted by the Secretary Tezpur Sahitya Sabha, Pankaj Baruah.

The day was also observed at Poki (Jyoti Bharati). On the other hand, commemorating the cultural icon a new Assamese film “Cactus” directed by Arup Man and produced by Dr. Gupendra Mahan Das was also screened at Joki, the first cinema hall of the state.
