Rising mercury level makes people cry for rain

GUWAHATI, July 20: Although the day temperature on Friday slightly went down, due to the overall rising of temperature in the last couple of days, people across the state are still battling the scorching sun. The record day time temperature of 37 degree Celsius in Guwahati on Friday has made life miserable. Guwahati recorded a day temperature of 38 degree Celsius on Friday, while Silchar recorded the highest day temperature of 39.8 degree Celsius during the day.

Notably, on July 18, Guwahati recorded the highest July temperature of 38.4 degree Celsius – that is considered to be the all-time high record of July temperature of Guwahati. During these days, people residing in bamboo huts are seen pouring water on rooftops of CI sheets to cool themselves. People with concrete buildings but without coolers or ACs are seen taking shelter under trees. Sales of sugarcane juice, iced-water and ice creams have gone up in the last couple of days. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Borjhar forecasted that there may be rainfall only after July 21. The RMC added that by Saturday rainfall is expected.
