Robbers apprehended

JOYSAGAR, April 13: Sivasagar Police, led by OC D.Sarmah and TSI U.Tamang, apprehended three most wanted robbers from Sivasagar Railway Station area on Thursday night. Acting on a tip-off, police suddenly raided one of the houses in the Station Road area of the town and were able to nab Sadik Ali, Ajgar Ali and Tinku Dutta. Police recovered many sharp weapons, Rs 60,000 cash and seven mobile phones from their possession. But during the operation, one robber, Malu Ahmed alias Malu Fakir, was able to flee taking advantage of the darkness. Police sources revealed that this gang of robbers was allegedly involved in five different bank robbery cases. Besides, Sadik Ali was also accused in a case registered in the Sivasagar Police Station (case No-379/495/297/10/13/34 IPC) involving extortion from various businessmen and government employees in the name of ULFA (I).

Moreover, Sadik Ali was the prime suspect in a bomb blast which took place in the ASTC Tiniali area in 2015 in which two persons died. Sivasagar Police recovered some extortion letters written in fake letter pads in the name of ULFA (I) from the residence of accused Malu Fakir and these letters had been prepared by Sadik Ali, sources revealed. All the robbers are being interrogated in Sivasagar Sadar Police Station for more information.
