Robert Mueller Submits Report on Russia's Investigation of US 2016 election

Guwahati: Special counsel Robert Mueller submitted a confidential report on Friday on his investigation into Russia's alleged role in the 2016 presidential election in the United States and President Donald Trump's alleged violations of the law.

The legislators were told by the Attorney General William Barr that he will soon decide on how much of the report he will share with the Congress and the public.

According to an unidentified Justice Department official, Mueller, who had brought charges against 34 people and three companies in the investigation will not recommend any further indictments and the list also includes six of Trump's former aides. Mueller was tasked with the investigation in May 2017.

Trump alleged that Mueller had colluded with Russia or that he obstructed justice by firing Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey.

It has been demanded by the country's law that the attorney general share an outline of the report with the Democratic and Republican leaders of the judiciary committees in the Congress.

Other than Trump's allegations, Mueller has been charged by several former Trump associates, including his campaign chairman Paul Manafort, former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and personal lawyer Michael Cohen.

Barr, who has been appointed by Trump has also promised transparency and said that he remained committed to as much transparency as possible and that he will keep them informed the status of his review.

The House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democratic leader Chuck Schumer however, demanded that Barr should make the report public and not to give Trump or his staff a sneak preview of the findings.

Barr on Friday, wrote to congressional leaders that he intends to consult with Mueller and with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to determine what other information from the report can be released to Congress and the public consistent with the law.

The White House, on the other hand, learned about the completion of the report at 4.45 pm on Friday, when attorney Emmet Flood in the White House Counsel's office received the notification.
