STRAY DOG MECE
From A Reporter
SHILLONG, Oct 29: Residents of the State Capital are coming up with innovative ways to thwart stray dogs entering their compounds and littering them or preventing these canines from uriting and pooping in front of their gates. And one such popular yet novel initiative has been of hanging a plastic bottle filled with Robin, a liquid detergent.
This new idea to counter stray dogs has been seen in practice in a number of localities across the city. According to a few residents using this method, they have found that a plastic bottle filled with the liquid detergent actually works as it has prevented stray dogs from entering their compounds and also stopped them from uriting and pooping in front of their gates.
Localities which have started using this method include parts of Malki, Jaiaw, Lummawbah, Lumparing, Mawlai etc. The simple method only requires the liquid detergent Robin to be mixed with water and then filling the mixture in a plastic bottle, before tying it to the front gate with a rope and without putting the cap on.
“This has greatly helped in keeping the locality clean as it has thwarted stray dogs form dirtying the locality and it has also reduced the number of dogs loitering around the locality,” a resident of Mawlai said. A resident of Mission Compound said the method has been successful as it has decreased the number of stray dogs loitering and dirtying the locality, especially during the night. When asked as to why the dogs are shying away from the detergent, he said the smell of the detergent mix might be causing some kind of repulsive smell, thereby forcing the canines to stay away from the places where such bottles are kept hanging.
