'Role of public important in implementing laws against child labour'

Bongaigaon, June 13: On the occasion of World Day against Child Labour, the District Legal Service Authority (DLSA), Bongaigaon organized a meeting in Priya Gupta Memorial Hall in Bongaigaon on Sunday.

The meeting was presided over by Gobinda Biswas, senior advocate and secretary of Hind Mazdoor Sabha, Bongaigaon district committee. Several noted persons including NC Das, Assistant Labour Commissioner of Bongaigaon, Jayashree Baruah, senior advocate and public prosecutor of Bongaigaon Court, Ashish Biswas, Assam State Secretary of HMS and Central Joint General Secretary of North East Frontier Railway Mazdoor Union were present in this meeting. The objective of the meeting was described by Debashish Saikia, secretary of DLSA.

Addressing the gathering, Gobinda Biswas said that there are several laws in India against child labour. “But unfortutely, they have not been implemented properly yet in most places of India and hence, child labour became a burning and huge problem now,” he said. Ashish Biswas said that consciousness and awareness of people can stop such social evils. “For implementing laws against child labour, role of public is important. Once people become aware about it, nobody will dare employ children for labour. So, to make aware people, government and NGOs and other organizations should conduct awareness programmes,” he said.
