Rotary Club of Haflong Hills holds charity musical show

Haflong, July 15: The Rotary Club of Haflong Hills (RCHH) organized a charity and dinner programme recently at the District Library Auditorium. The second installation ceremony of the RCHH was done where Rtn Kulendra Daulagupu took charge as the new president from outgoing president Rtn Ramesh Thaosen. Meanwhile, Rtn Ron Kemprai took charge as the new secretary from outgoing secretary Rtn L Tuolor.

Amitabh Rajkhowa, Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao, attended the programme as the chief guest and Rtn Dr. Bibhas Das Purkayastha, District Literary Club chairman, was the guest of honour. Bibhuti Dutta, former president of Rotary Club of Guwahati, was the special guest. Speaking on the occasion, chief guest Amitabh Rajkhowa praised the initiative taken by the Rotary Club around the globe and appreciated the Rotary Club of Haflong Hills for also having started rendering service to mankind. Conveying his best wishes, he said that such selfless service was a service towards humanity.

Induction of the two new members was also done as part of the programme. During the programme, the president informed that RCHH had hosted a dinner-cum-charity programme as a small step towards the Rotary India Literacy Mission. The TEACH programme is one of the most comprehensive programmes on total literacy and quality education. Rtn Monojit Phonglo spoke about the education project of RCHH, basically on the lines of TEACH, which would be met with a holistic approach to achieve the literacy goal of RCHH to improve the overall literacy rate of Dima Hasao. The charity musical show was attended by around 200 people. The main attraction was the lively musical performance by Colours from Guwahati. The Haflong Students’ Choir also performed few impressive songs.
