JOYSAGAR, May 4: Disruption in power supply has been creating much trouble to the common consumers of Sivasagar town and its surrounding areas of late. The Upper Assam Electricity Distribution Company Limited, Sivasagar Division has been unable to supply sufficient power to its consumers and frequent power cuts in recent times in Sivasagar have become a common feature. Such power cut amounting to 8 to 12 times and for an average of 4-5 hours daily in recent times have immensely irked the citizens of Sivasagar. The UAPDCL sources informed that due to insufficient supply of power from the source was the cause behind such power cuts. Sources also revealed that the Maibela Hydro-power project and Lakwa-Gargaon power project of late have been hit by technical problems, leading to disruption in power supply in the district.

Meanwhile, the newly appointed Minister of State for power and Sonari MLA Tapan Gogoi has announced that the domestic power supply would be disruption-free from the next year. During his recent visit to the Sivasagar district after taking charge as Minister of State for Power, the citizens tried to draw the attention of the Minister to the dismal power supply scenario and urged him to do the needful for the take off of the Amguri Solar Energy Project at an early date.
