SHILLONG, Nov 1: Royal Wahingdoh FC put up a brilliant display to beat Langsning 2-1 in the Gionee Shillong Premier League to book a semi fil date with Shillong Lajong FC.
The Royals were well aware of the importance of the make-or-break tie and looked to domite proceedings from the word go. But the opponents were not the one to let go without a fight.
At a time when it was turning out to be a show between two sides equal in might, RWFC’s Kilp Barfungpa stood out as the difference between the SPL opponents. Kilp scored a spectacular goal from long range on the right to leave the in disbelief. A dive towards the left by the Langsning custodian was but all vain as Kilp’s scorcher of a hot sailed into the side netting from a complex angle. It was RWFC 1, Langsning 0 at half time.
Crossing over Langsning stepped up the tempo, and scored a minute after the hour mark through Bickyson Kharkongor. However, within ten minutes the Royals were leading again. This time the hero was Andy Mawthoh who converted with sublime ease from inside.
The match took an ugly turn thereafter with both sides reduced to ten men. Things became murkier with Langsning being reduced to nine after one of their players was sent off for committing a bad foul against the RWFC custodian.
In the end the Royals prevailed and would now look to tame Lajong on their way through to the fil of the SPL.
