LAKHIMPUR: Lakhimpur Police on Saturday arrested a person who had fraudulently looted an amount of Rs 10 lakh from two persons of Kohima. The culprit was sent to jail. The two persons from Kohima, Vincent and Siju, had made a deal with some fraudsters to run an insurance business in partnership. The fraudsters promised them to develop a branch office of an insurance company in Kohima. So Vincent and Siju paid the racketeers the amount as per the deal.

When Vincent and Siju realized that they had been duped, they arrived at Deezoo in Lakhimpur on Friday seeking the amount back from the racketeers. But they allegedly threatened Vincent and Siju and refused to return the money.

Though the victims filed a complaint at Silanibari Outpost, police could not catch any of the racketeers. However, one of the culprits, Ramesh Tanti was arrested on Saturday by Silanibari Police due to the efforts of the activists of North Lakhimpur regional unit of AASU. The other racketeers are absconding.
