Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia provided to families of storm victims

HOWRAGHAT, May 13: Prompt action was taken by the State government in giving support to the families of those who lost their lives in the recent fierce rainstorm that took place at Howraghat in Karbi Anglong. State Hills Area Development Minister Sum Ronghang on Saturday handed over cheques of Rs 4 lakh to the families of each of the two victims at a function held at the Bakaliaghat auditorium hall. Two persons, including a woman, died during the devastating storm on May 9 at Howraghat town. They were identified as Mohan Bora and Prabhabati Harijan. Both the family members were provided Rs 4 lakh cheque by the State government.

Besides, a number of BPL students and ailing people were also provided cheques of Rs 5,000 by Ronghang and dignitaries like Khonsing Rongpi, Ratan Teron and Ramsing Timung. Before attending the felicitation meeting, Ronghang laid the foundation stone of an open stage with an estimated cost of Rs 5 lakh and the foundation stone of the employees’ Association office near the Irrigation Divisional office. Both the construction works will be done under local MLA development scheme. Addressing the crowd, Ronghang highlighted various schemes, especially for women empowerment and students.
