RTI activists accused of 'blackmailing' doctor

GOLAGHAT, Feb  3: A sensatiol allegation has been leveled against two RTI activists in Golaghat by a doctor. At a press meet, Dr Debraj Saha and a group of doctors of Golaghat alleged that two RTI activists, Mustaq Ali and Pulok Gogoi, were distributing leaflets where it was alleged that Dr Debraj Saha’s degree of Cardiology was not recognized by the Medical Council of India. The RTI activists stated that they received the information through an RTI application filed by them where it was revealed that Dr Saha’s Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Cardiology was not recognized by the MCI as he obtained this through IGNOU. Dr Debraj Saha in the press meet alleged that Mustak Ali and Pulok Gogoi showed him the RTI application and began to blackmail him and demanded Rs 50,000. When Dr Saha refused to give them the money, they printed some leaflets against him and distributed in the town. Meanwhile, regarding the cardiology diploma of Dr Debraj Saha, the general secretary of Kerala-based Indian Association of Clinical Cardiologists, Dr M Shafiq, who was also present in the press meet, said that Dr Debraj Saha was a recognized cardiologist. Dr Debraj Saha has filed two cases against the RTI activists in Golaghat Court.
